This tool provides a guide to developing and assessing policy briefs.

Steps for Using Method/Tool

The tool guides users through six questions:

Does the policy brief address a high-priority issue and describe the relevant context of the issue being addressed?
Does the policy brief describe the problem, costs and consequences of options to address the problem, and key implementation issues?
Does the policy brief employ systematic and transparent methods to identify, select and assess synthesized research evidence?
Does the policy brief consider quality, local applicability and equity when discussing the research evidence?
Does the policy brief use a graded-entry format?
Was the policy brief reviewed for both scientific quality and system relevance?

These summaries are written by the NCCMT to condense and to provide an overview of the resources listed in the Registry of Methods and Tools and to give suggestions for their use in a public health context.
